Day 4 – Exploring around Tenterfield
Day four brings an adventurous day of discovery. Just 12 km north of Tenterfield, history hides among the granite. Thunderbolt’s Hideout was the secret sanctuary of Fred Ward – Australia’s longest-roaming bushranger. Throughout the 1860s, he used these massive, jumbled boulders as a lookout, waiting for gold-laden travellers to pass on the road below. Today, a short, signposted walk from the road leads you right into the heart of the rocky lair, where you can still feel the spirit of the bushranging era.

Next, the stop is the breathtaking Boonoo Boonoo Falls lookout, accessible via a gravel road another 25 km away. From the falls carpark, a short walking trail leads to the lookout at the edge of the falls. Cascading rock pools give way into the deep valley below, offering amazing views.
In addition to the natural beauty surrounding Tenterfield, you cannot go past Bald Rock National Park, a further 25 km along Mount Lindesay Road. Bald Rock is known as the largest exposed granite dome in Australia, rising about 260 metres above the surrounding bushland. A short walk leads to the base of Bald Rock for viewing, or we recommend the Bungoona Walk, which leads through massive boulders to the Bald Rock Summit (allow 1.5 hours).
🔋EV Charging Station: Coles Tenterfield, 4x chargers, CCS2 250kW.
🔋EV Charging Station: Tenterfield Visitor Information Centre, 1x charger, CCS2, CHADeMO, 50kW.

Day 5 – Byron Bay
Carry on the journey, leaving the highlands behind, and follow the Bruxner Highway to the coastal gem of Byron Bay, 204 km away. When arriving in Byron, a must-do is the Cape Byron Walking Trail, which starts at the Brooke Drive car park (parking fees apply). Follow the trail through the dense rainforest and along the rugged, rocky coastline to reach the Cape Byron Lighthouse and the iconic “Most Easterly Point” of the Australian mainland. This is the perfect place to spot marine life like Whales and Dolphins, while relaxing and taking in the coastal views. The exploration doesn’t stop there, with a variety of breweries, shopping, or an escape to the rainforest waterfalls at Minyon Falls.

Following this, cosy into a variety of accommodation options with EV Charging available. For instance, you can book two nights at Beach Hotel Resort, Glen Villa Resort, or Ingenia Holidays Byron Bay as a base to explore the list below!
